We as a company understand how vital up to date and quality training is. This is why we invest time and money into the training of our drivers; from newly qualified PCV licence holders to existing, experienced licence holders that need refresher courses.
In 2013, we appointed Les Harrison as our Training Manager. Les has been with Heyfordian since 1988 and has extensive knowledge through practical experience of all aspects of driver training. He is fully qualified by the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPLT) to train our drivers on all aspects of the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC).
Les is also registered with Transport for London for delivering courses on their behalf. He is continually attending courses in order to bring the most up-to-date training available.
In conjunction with SYZYGY, we are also able to offer an advanced First Aid course which will not only add to the Driver CPC but will also give a Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Certificate.
The Driver CPC is for coach, bus and heavy goods vehicle drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK. It is a legal requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59, which is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional PCV and HGV drivers throughout their working life.
The Driver CPC training course incorporates the following subjects:
Health & Safety
Tachograph laws
Vehicle checks
SAFED (Safe & Fuel Efficient Driving)
Customer Care
London familiarisation training.
We are committed to continually improve the standard of our drivers professional capabilities in order to provide a superior service to our customers. All our drivers undertake a 3 monthly driving assessment to ensure they maintain the high standard that we strive to offer and understand the importance of all the legal requirements expected of them as proficient drivers.
We provide training for nationally recognised qualifications to all of our own drivers and also to drivers from other organisations. We are keenly aware that operators must improve their business by investing in their drivers training and development.
All drivers must undertake 35 hours of training in every 5 year period, which equates to one 7 hour training day per year. This is referred to as Periodic Training. Each course must be a minimum of 7 hours actual training, not including any breaks. A morning and afternoon tea break of 15 minutes are taken along with a break of 30 minutes for lunch.
Our courses are classroom based and approved by JAUPT and the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and take place within a friendly environment. Our Trainer is also willing to come to other companies and train their staff on-site. Periodic Training is designed to improve the knowledge of the driver and it can include courses in a range of subjects. At the end of each course a certificate is issued showing the course attended.
